The importance of posture and pressure care

Recently, we attended an event where we talked about posture and pressure care, as we continue to provide the best cost effective solutions for pressure care and pressure sore/ulcer prevention, promoting independence and a duty of care across the healthcare industry.

The importance of pressure care and prevention

Proper positioning, alongside the regular use of specialised cushions and mattresses such as Posiperle microbead cushions, can help to achieve the even distribution of pressure and therefore significantly reduce the risk of pressure sores and ulcers, and prevent such damage to the body.

Alongside this, where prevention hasn’t been possible, the aim of pressure care & support is to maintain healthy skin and prevent the further development of pressure sores & ulcers, minimising any pain experienced and further damage to the skin.

Posture affects pressure and pressure affects posture

A person’s posture and positioning directly affects how pressure is distributed throughout their body; where weight can be distributed unevenly, increasing the risk of pressure injuries, causing pain and limiting mobility.

Similarly, pressure injuries can lead to noticeable changes in posture due to pain or the limited mobility that may be experienced alongside a pressure sore or ulcer. Depending on where the sore might be, the affected person may struggle to sit, stand or walk.
