What’s the ideal transfer chair: stand transfer or hoisted transfer?

When it comes to mobility equipment, a transfer chair is a popular choice for individuals with limited mobility, including elderly people and those living with disabilities.

But, when it comes to chair options, what’s the ideal transfer chair? Stand transfer or hoisted transfer?

Chair options – stand transfer or hoisted transfer?

The type of chair you choose really does depend on your individual circumstances; your mobility, range of movement and how you feel – how confident you are sitting down and standing up.

Stand transfer chairs: Stand transfer chairs are best suited to individuals who can still bear weight and stand with both feet evenly on the floor. Standing aids such as stand transfer chairs can be non-mechanised and requires the user to pull themselves up from sitting into a standing position.

Hoisted transfer chairs: for those with significantly limited or no mobility, a hoist is the only practical way to move between seats, safely and securely. Hoists can be used to transfer individuals into a chair from either the front or side and  require much more space to maneuver than standing transfer chairs.
